Wool.Life was conceived following a conversation between founder Stephen Fookes –
then chairing the New Zealand Global Campaign for Wool – and the head of the British
Fire Service. The Fire Service had a serious problem: when home fires happened,
flammable insulation was emitting toxic fumes and causing preventable deaths.
Stephen saw an opportunity to utilise the natural fire resistance of wool to provide a safer option for families, and to take advantage of wool’s moisture reduction properties to combat damp, mouldy homes at the same time.
Eighteen months of extensive product development later, Wool.Life introduced their wool knop insulation to the market. This was the first in a range of safe, science-backed products designed to give consumers a healthier option and bring strength and sustainability to New Zealand’s strongwool industry.
The Wool.Life team is passionate about developing products that enhance the lives of their users, champion the use of wool as an innovative material, and don’t harm our planet.
Our wool comes from farms across New Zealand, and we partner directly with farmers to provide a fair and sustainable supply chain. We manufacture our insulation products in rural Waikato, providing primary industry jobs for a flock of awesome local people.
There’s one part of our community we can’t overlook – the wool providers themselves! New Zealand’s sheep are a unique natural resource, and we’re dedicated to ensuring the sheep that produce Wool. Life wool are happy, healthy, and cared for in accordance with animal welfare legislation. Regular shearing of wool keeps sheep happy and healthy – so the more products we can provide and supply, the better life is for our farmers and their flocks.
By utilising the coarse/strong wool of New Zealand, Wool.Life is significantly improving the potential for the New Zealand Wool Industry around the world.
